Refraction at Opti-med. Augenoptik
A refraction is the determination of visual acuity, in particular for the prescription of spectacles or contact lenses.
For this purpose, manual or computer-controlled phoropters are used. Ophthalmologists or opticians use the phoropter to determine which correction is necessary to correct visual impairment (short-sightedness or farsightedness).
Refraction may be performed in most countries by both ophthalmologists and optometrists.
In the Anglo-Saxon countries, it is, in particular, the optometrists who carry out the spectacle lens regulations.
In these countries, ophthalmologists are focusing on eye diseases and opticians are focusing on the manufacture and adjustment of eyewear in the form of eyeglasses and contact lenses.
